With a vision to combat impacts of climate change on environmental and human well-being through afforestation and forest protection, Farmers for Forests aims to Incentivize farmers to grow tiny forests on rural wasteland and degraded forest land to increase carbon sequestration and become stewards of sustainable forest management. Their priorities include: 1) Increase India’s biodiverse forest cover through afforestation and reforestation programs to contribute to India’s Paris Climate target of creating 2.5-3 billion tonnes equivalent carbon sink by 2030. 2) Prevent deforestation by compensating farmers to protect existing forest cover 3) Develop local environmental stewardship by encouraging increased participation of local communities and farmers in environmental protection efforts 4) Build a knowledge base on using PES model to promote and advance forest-driven climate change mitigation programs and policies.
